v2024 Release Announcement

Crosslight is proud to announce new features & milestones for its upcoming v2024 release. In addition to multiple bug fixes and improvements, the following new feature/improvements were made:

  • Improved behavior of negative stimulated emission rate for EAM and waveguide photodetectors
  • Complete overhaul of commands in the bias_output family, to provide more extensive diagnostic plots of internal variables during a simulation
  • Improved regrid functionality, with optional Delaunay mesh generator
  • Improved regrid functionality, providing the ability to reload the refined mesh and continue the simulation
  • New model for PCSEL devices
  • Improvements to mode selection methods in microcavity model
  • Enhanced plotting of AC LED characteristics
  • New model for quantum cascade photodetectors
  • Modified behavior of RCLED model, to better diagnose issues with accidentally mistuned cavities
  • Improved randomness settings for resistive switch model
  • Added additional flexibility to define multiple dopant types in layer files

This version will be released shortly to eligible customers. Customers with an up-to-date maintenance contract may also contact their local sales representatives if they wish to try these new features right away.

We are proud to announce the fourth annual winner of a collaboration with Assistant Professor Can Bayram of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As part of this collaboration, students worked with Crosslight TCAD tools in an academic setting and the best projects were selected for a prize.

Congratulations to the 2024 winner of this award:

  • Ming-Yan Hsiao, Exploring Possibility of Replacing 248 nm KrF with AlGaN Photolithography

An initial version of our 3D PCSEL model has been released for the 2024 beta version of PICS3D. Interested users should contact Crosslight for a demo.

v2023 Release Announcement

Crosslight is proud to announce new features & milestones for its upcoming v2023 release. In addition to multiple bug fixes and improvements, the following new feature/improvements were made:

  • New emission spectrum model for microcavity structures, based on Green’s function theory
  • The full 3D microcavity model has been upgraded to support symmetric boundary conditions. This enhancement enables PICS3D to save on mesh and simulation time buy solving either half or a quarter of the device. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for large or complex devices such as Photonic Crystal VCSELs and High Contrast Grating VCSELs
  • New faster and memory-efficient eigensolvers available. These are automatically implemented for the optical mode solution in the microcavity model
  • New compressed (zip) format available for the import/export of gain tables. This speeds up the process of loading material gain data from external solvers and allows for denser tables to be used more easily.

This version will be released in the coming weeks, after final testing has been completed. Customers with an up-to-date maintenance contract can contact their local sales representatives if they wish to try these new features right away.

We are pleased to announce that our proposal “Next Generation 3D Simulator for Surface Emitting Lasers” has been approved for support under the National Research Council Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP).

Over the coming year, expect more PCSEL-related news as we continue to improve the software to handle this exciting new class of laser devices.

New Oxide VCSEL presentation

A new presentation of an Oxide-Confined Vertical Surface Emitting Laser (HCG-VCSEL) model has been uploaded. This demonstrates multimode behavior within the microcavity model and new spectral analysis features recently added to the beta version of PICS3D. Interested demo users and existing maintenance customers can contact us to get early access to the 2023 beta version and the files needed to run this example.

New SiGe EAM presentation

A new model for SiGe modulators has been added to our standard PICS3D example library starting with version 2023. Interested demo users and existing maintenance customers can contact us to get early access to the 2023 beta version and the files needed to run this example.

New 3D HCG-VCSEL presentation

A new model for High Contrast Grating Crystal Vertical Surface Emitting Laser (HCG-VCSEL) model has been demonstrated for our beta version of PICS3D, making use of our latest improvements in the vectorial FDFD solver of the Maxwell equations. Interested demo users and existing maintenance customers can contact us to get early access to the 2023 beta version and the files needed to run this example.

New 3D PC-VCSEL presentation

A new model for Photonic Crystal Vertical Surface Emitting Laser (PC-VCSEL) model has been demonstrated for our beta version of PICS3D, making use of our latest improvements in the vectorial FDFD solver of the Maxwell equations. Interested demo users and existing maintenance customers can contact us to get early access to the 2023 beta version and the files needed to run this example.
